But in a wide open year, look for the numbers to change, perhaps based in part on recent Iowa numbers showing Mike Huckabee surging on the GOP side, and Obama eating into Clinton’s lead there. But if Clinton has a decisive win in Iowa and several other Democrats are clustered and move on to New Hampshire, Scala sees a situation that makes Clinton tough to beat here as “those against her” divide among several contenders. Besides potentially shaking up the Democratic race here, the Iowa caucuses also could have a profound impact on the GOP race in New Hampshire. For Romney, the biggest danger here, according to Scala, is a strong Huckabee showing in Iowa that leaves New Hampshire Republicans looking for an alternative to the ex-preacher’s strain of conservatism. read more
